Innovation Grant Supports College and Job Readiness for D.C. Teens

Affordable housing is key to helping families achieve some financial stability. That’s why NHT-Enterprise is excited to announce its WorkFirst Initiative, which focuses on building job and college readiness skills for our teenage residents in Washington, D.C.

The new initiative will support teenagers, ages 14-19, living in seven NHT-Enterprise communities in Washington, D.C.  Teens will receive college counseling and assistance with financial aid/scholarship applications, as well as explore careers as first responders, participate in internships, and attend bi-weekly professional development opportunities with mentors. These interventions are key to helping families achieve economic stability.

Our WorkFirst Initiative expands opportunity that leads to better educational and career outcomes. WorkFirst is crucial in light of persistent economic inequality in our society.

We are excited to have great partners for this work.  WorkFrist is funded by an innovation grant from the D.C Department of Employment Services and additional sponsorship from Capital One Bank and UBS Bank. The WorkFirst University website serves as a one-stop portal about the initiative, containing an application form, blog and calendar of upcoming events.
