Voices Out Loud: Stories from Affordable Housing

As part of NHT’s Where Will We Live campaign, the engagement team is traveling to NHT-Enterprise properties to meet with residents, property managers, maintenance staff, and community leaders to discuss what affordable housing means to them and the impact it has on their lives. The resulting video series, entitled Voices Out Loud, aims to raise the voices of residents, so that their stories are amplified and reach not just the public but policymakers at the local, state and federal levels.

This month, Voices Out Loud highlights a story that NHT has only partially told in the past. Several months back, the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) awarded two NHT-Enterprise residents, brothers Saifullah Kahn and Fnu Faizullah, scholarships after graduating from Germanna Community College. Both are now enrolled at the University of Mary Washington College and are continuing their studies in the medical field. Without affordable housing, neither Fnu or Saifullah would be able to attend school, or pursue the careers needed to support their families.

But there’s more to the brothers’ story. Originally from Afghanistan, Saifullah and Fnu worked as translators for the U.S. military. Learn all about their story in our latest Voices Out Loud video.
