Legal Counsel

Alice Hamilton Evert joined the National Housing Trust as Legal Counsel in 2022 after serving as outside counsel since 2015.  In this role, Alice works closely with the Lending Team, throughout the loan closing and servicing process for NHT’s two lending subsidiaries, NHT Community Development Fund and Institute for Community Economics. 

Alice has more than a decade of experience in affordable housing and community economic development.  Prior to joining NHT as Legal Counsel and her work as outside counsel, Alice was a Friedman Fellow and Visiting Associate Professor of Clinical Law in The George Washington University Law School's Small Business & Community Economic Development Clinic.  Alice gained extensive experience in multifamily housing finance, in particular FHA-lending, as an associate in the Affordable Housing and Community Development practice group of Pepper Hamilton LLP (now Troutman Pepper) in Washington, D.C.  Before Pepper, Alice was an associate at Linowes and Blocher, LLP, in Bethesda, Maryland, where she focused on commercial litigation and bankruptcy matters.

Alice holds a B.A. in Classics from the University of Texas at Austin, and a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.
