Are Low Income Housing Tax Credits in Jeopardy?
The Low Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit) is a proven tool for encouraging private investment in the production and preservation of affordable rental housing. With infrastructure changes and budget reform on the horizon, now is the time to send a powerful message to Congress and the Administration. That is why the National Housing Trust has joined with 2,000 other organizations and businesses as part of the ACTION Campaign to call on Congress to protect, expand, and strengthen the Low Income Housing Tax Credit.
Housing Credits improve peoples' lives: Affordable housing not only promotes financial stability and leads to better academic and health outcomes, but Housing Credits also provide a strong return on investment. Housing Credit development supports 96,000 jobs and generates $3.5 billion in tax revenue every year. Since the creation of the program in 1986, the private sector has utilized Housing Credits to deliver nearly 3 million affordable apartments to low income households.
Join NHT and the ACTION Campaign in urging Congress to not only maintain, but increase and strengthen affordable housing through expansion of Housing Credits.
