NHT is Committed to Promoting Racial Justice through Housing, Resilience and Opportunity.
The National Housing Trust stands in solidarity with Black Americans demanding an end to racial injustice. We remember those that have lost their lives to racial violence: Emmett Till, Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, among many. We are saddened to commit more names to memory: George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor. Racism is real and it’s long past time to confront the racial disparities that exist in all parts of our society, including housing. Black lives matter.
Housing is more than shelter; housing is agency, opportunity, health and dignity. We promote racial justice through housing, resilience and opportunity. Words must be backed up with action: We understand the deeply entrenched racism that has limited access to housing and economic mobility for Black families, and have been working to advocate for racial justice in innovative ways within the existing system. We now recognize the need for more transformative structural change and will use our position in the industry to advocate and model more impactful solutions. In the coming months, we will consider how our organization’s norms, culture, and leadership can prioritize anti-racism and meaningful change.
We hope you will join us in this journey to fight systemic racism and ensure human rights and dignity for all.
