NHT-Enterprise Takes Home the "Timmy"!

Monseñor Romero, an NHT-Enterprise property in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was recognized by the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association at their annual J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence at the Historic Rehabilitation ceremony in Boston.  The redeveloped community received the prestigious "Timmy" Award  "Achievement in Sustainability." 

After a devastating fire destroyed the Deauville Apartments, NHT-Enterprise worked with residents, the local government, and community leaders to re-build the apartments, preserve the historic façade, ensure long-term affordability and return residents to their homes in the newly named Monseñor Romero Apartments.

The reconstructed building not only met the requirements for historical designation, but also combined substantial elements of sustainable design.  The project exceeds the standards of the Enterprise Green Communities Initiative with green features such as a vegetated roof, bamboo floors, solar panels, energy-star appliances and fixtures, motion sensor lighting, and 4 inches of spray foam inside the exterior brick envelope of the building creating an air tight and highly efficient layer of insulation. Earlier this year, the residents at Monseñor Romero also helped install a stormwater management garden in partnership with the Anacostia Watershed Society. 

Projects nominated for a Timmy Award are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary panel of judges. Winners are selected based on overall design and quality, interpretation and respect of historic elements, market/ financial success, innovative approach to construction and use of building materials, community impact and sustainability.
