NHT Seniors Rally (Again) to Preserve Their Home

On May 8th, 25 senior residents from NHT Communities’ Mountainview Tower Apartments traveled more than three hours from their homes in Cumberland, Maryland to join hundreds of others to the Senior Housing Now Rally on Capitol Hill, organized by Leading Age.  With signs in hand and wearing Where Will We Live? t-shirts, the residents we’re ready to show how important affordable housing is for seniors.

This isn’t the first time these senior residents travelled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for their affordable community. In June 2017, a group of more than 30 residents from Mountainview travelled downtown for the Save HUD 202 Rally, also organized by Leading Age. And in March 2018, one of the residents from Mountainview, Kathy Myers, traveled to D.C. to speak in front of nearly 80 policymakers and their staffers at the Capital. She shared her emotional story as part of a panel to lend her voice to advocate for continued support for affordable housing from congress.

Before heading back home to Cumberland, the senior residents enjoyed some time at the Air and Space Museum, as many residents had never been before.

NHT is honored to be able to provide our residents access to opportunities where they can engage with Members of Congress and advocate for the issues that matter to them. We are dedicated to providing these channels to civic engagement for our residents and hope to continue connecting our communities to similar events.
