Where Will We Live is Your Tool for Housing Advocacy

NHT and Enterprise Community Partners have partnered to create Where Will We Live, an educational campaign that highlights the importance of affordable housing by uplifting resident voices and drawing the connection between access to affordable housing and health, education and economic opportunity. 

Over the past year, our team traveled across the country interviewing low-income residents and community members about their experiences with affordable housing and how access to federal housing assistance helps residents access greater economic opportunity, health care, supportive services, and education. 

Now in its second year, the Where Will We Live team is working make its gallery of resident stories a resource that our partners can use to help make the case for affordable housing for low-income residents. The story gallery is growing every day and can be filtered by state and cross-sector topic.

The gallery features dozens of personal stories exploring how affordable, stable housing changes economic outcomes, including education, health, and job security.

Here are a few ways to use Where Will We Live as a tool for your own educational or advocacy efforts:

Tweet or share a video on Facebook

One of the main uses of social media is to share information with others. Don’t pass up the chance to tweet out a video or share a story that resonates with you.

Share a video with your local representative

Are you participating in a congressional visit soon or do you have a meeting with a local decision maker in your community? Come prepared with a video to educate them on the benefits of affordable housing programs like Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, project-based rental assistance, and Section 202. Don’t see your state represented in the story gallery? Reach out to the mobilization team, we still have plenty of stories.

Feature a video in a congressional briefing or town hall meeting

Not all Members of Congress understand the positive impact of affordable housing within a community. In their own voices, our residents describe those benefits based on first-hand experience.t. Use their stories to supplement your testimony.
