The Roots of the Community Land Trust Movement
NHT traces its commitment to Community Land Trusts back to its 2008 stewardship of the Institute for Community Economics (I.C.E.), a pioneering CLT and CDFI organization founded in the 1970s that helped grow the movement from a dozen trusts to over 100 nationwide. That legacy, including I.C.E.'s role in launching what's now Opportunity Finance Network, continues to inform NHT's lending approach today, with over $13 million deployed to CLTs since 2024.
